“My name is Zachary Garrow and I have been with AAI just over two months now. I started working at the Calgary airport with AeroMag 2000 in September of 2019 straight out of high school. I have always had a passion for the airline industry as my mom worked for Air Canada for 15 years and growing up my father was a mechanic for Canadian Regional, Air Canada and eventually moved to fleet manager of Canadian North and is currently the fleet manager for Flair Airlines.
To say I was always around planes was an understatement, but as a kid, who would not love to get to play in different kinds of planes. When I came to work at AAI, I had already received my DA from my previous employer, however after a few short weeks I was given the opportunity by AAI to upgrade my DA to the D permit. The process and training required to go from my DA to D was a very smooth transition, starting with the check ride.
Even though I had my DA for about two years already, I found the training to be very helpful and it was great to have a refresher with all the information. Anyone who has ever worked at the airport knows that things are constantly changing and improving, so being able to review all the information again for my check ride with AAI was very helpful and helped me to be successful with passing my D exam on the first attempt. The training I received from Patti was great. She was very informative, thorough and she was easy to communicate with. I would recommend training with Patti to everyone.
Over the last few months, I have had the opportunity to meet some amazing people here at AAI from Aman in scheduling, Gino my supervisor, Paul our GM to Don and Angie my co-workers.
Being the “New” guy in a company is not always easy, however everyone has made this a great experience and I have had a great time so far and I look forward to seeing what the future holds for myself and this company
